My Personal Research Journey

I choose the following three areas to do more investigation.
1. Ways to foster healthy social emotional development in toddlers
2. How the arts help children develop social-emotionally in healthy ways
3. The influence of sibling relationships on preschool children’s social-emotional development.
When I was young, my parents cared little about my emotions and feelings, the influences are much more profound than I expected. Till now, sometimes I lose temper quickly and don’t have strong connections with people’s feelings, and afraid of being neglected. For children’s well-beings, physical development and cognitive development are measurable, easier to practice than emotional and social development. The recent tendency of education is also highly focus on cultivating students’ emotional and social development.
I am not sure where to locate the information yet till now. I will be very grateful if any my colleague(s) could give me any suggestions. I hope I can make it for the research.

  1. Hello Xia
You already have three sub-topics, select one that interest you the most and place it google scholar from Walden library to check the articles. This process takes a lot of time. Good luck, if I find something I will let you know.

  2. Hello Xia

Check these two articles in ProQuest Central in Walden Library. I hope they work for you, but there are others that are also interesting in the same page.

  3. Social and emotional development is a very good topic to explore. I'm especially interested in your question about sibling relationships and preschool children's social-emotional development. I have not read a lot a research about this topic. I'd be very interested in reading your work, if you choose this question.

  4. Hello Xia! I commend you for taking a piece of your personal life and sharing it with us, your colleagues!! Not only was that beneficial for your soul, but for your drive and determination of never forgetting the importance of the social/emotional aspect of early education!! Try using the Walden link to our library. From there use ERIC or other educational database to look up one of your subtopics. Personally, I started off with ERIC for my subtopic, but I only found a minimum amount of information about my topic (autism). So I then chose another database. Sometimes this may be necessary to find the information that's needed. Hope this helps and good luck!! :)

  5. I really can relate to your situation when I comes to your parents not caring for your feeling and emotions. Growing up as the oldest child my mother didn't want me to have emotions or feelings for my father. I think these are great topics to research.

  6. Very interesting: The role of the arts in the social-emotional development on children. I would like to recommend to you an article on arts-based learning in young children that I found on google: How the arts help children to create healthy social scripts: Exploring the perceptions of elementary teachers:
    Link: http://gseweb.oit.uci.edu/docs/Arts_Policy_social_emotional_development.pdf

If you search journal articles on the subject, you will find relevant information.
