Supposed
I worked in the Child Care Center, and one day I had a new child coming from Luxembourg
joining us. I’d like to let them feel welcomed and I need to prepare myself to
culturally response towards the family. After checking from internet, I found
out people there speak French, German and Luxembourgish. I will learn how to
say “hello” in Luxembourgish, and give them the feeling of connection. I will
download their national anthem and play it for them. I will get some Chinese
rose since it is their national flower. I know they like French and German
food, I will prepare some as well. I will invite the family to have a long
lunch together on the first day, and talk to them as long as possible.
I
hope I can have good connection with the child and their family, so that I can
get support from them, make my work easy. I think it is also important for the
family and the child to feel welcomed, so they can be relaxed and feel they are
a part of the community.
Xia,
ReplyDeleteI think this student would feel very welcomed! Good Job! We have to learn how to be welcoming to people that are different then us. I think that if we focus on the positive always we will not have a problem. Involving the family in all that has to do with the student will also help a lot. I would imagine if it was me that moved to another country I would want to be involved in my sons schools activities. It is tough to get used to a new place for sure!
